Getting to Oviedo
Madrid is closer to Oviedo and there are more bus/train/air connections than from Barcelona.
By plane:
Asturias Airport is located 46 km from Oviedo, and provides national and international air service to and from Asturias. A bus service (about 40 min) from the airport to Oviedo bus station is available (5.25€).
Ordinary flights from Madrid take about 1 hour. The flight from Barcelona takes 75 min. Commercial airlines that serve the airport are IBERIA and SPANAIR . Domestic flight (round trip) would cost about 135 € (euro), although IBERIA has now very cheap flights Madrid-Oviedo (less than 40 € one way). Iberia belongs to "One World", as well as, i.e., American Airlines does. If you are traveling to Spain with them, you may get a much cheaper fare to Oviedo. The same applies to Spanair and Lufthansa.
By Bus:
ALSA bus company travels into downtown Oviedo from Madrid ("Estacion Sur de Autobuses"), Barcelona ("Estación del Norte") and other European cities (see the schedule at the web page).
By train:
RENFE main station is located in the center of Oviedo (address: Uría s/n).
A few trains travel into Oviedo from Madrid ("Estación Madrid-Chamartín"), Barcelona ("Estación Barcelona-Sants"), Burgos and other cities.
The trip from Madrid takes about 5 hours, and costs (one way) around 27 €.
The trip from Barcelona takes about 11 hours, and costs (one way) around 30 €.

Moving around Madrid
- From the airport to Chamartin train station:
Line 8 (pink) till the end, change to line 4 (brown) heading Argüelles until Alonso Martinez station (after 13 stops), and then change to line 10 (dark blue) heading Fuencarral, and after 6 stops you shall get to Chamartin Railway station.
- From the airport to Atocha train station:
Line 8 (pink) till the end, change to line 4 (brown) heading Argüelles until Bilbao station (after 14 stops), and then change to line 1 (light blue) heading Congosto, and after 7 stops you shall get to Atocha Railway station.
- From the airport to Mendez Alvaro bus station:
Line 8 (pink) till the end, change to line 6 (grey) heading Laguna, after 7 stops you shall get to Mendez Alvaro bus station.
- In case you have a lot of luggage, it could be better to take a taxi from the airport to any of the stations. A taxi from the airport to any of the stations could cost about 30 € .
Moving around Barcelona
- The web page www.barcelonaturisme.com has info on transportation in Barcelona.
- There is a bus (AEROBUS) connecting the city with the airport (Plaça de Catalunya).
