The
International Association of Sport Economists was created in Limoges (France)
in 1999. The current President is Robert Baade who succeeded Paul

Presently there are 60 members of IASE from more than 20 countries. Purposes of IASE (extract of the status): ¨
Promote
the economics of sport ¨

academic exchanges among researchers ¨
Offer to
members all the necessary means to improve their knowledge and skill in the
economics of sport ¨
Supply
expert analyses in the field of the economics of sport The next
annual conference will take place in Gijón (Spain) in May 2008. Historical
background : Perceiving
the need for an organization to facilitate the exchange of ideas regarding
the economics of sport, economists at the CDES convened the first
international summer school for sports economists on 1st-2nd
July 1999 in Limoges, which brought together 22 participants from various
parts of the world. The days were organised around
three issues: to take stock of sports economics in the different countries
represented; to discuss professional sport; and to found an international
association. After many rewarding exchanges relating to comparing the
organisational models in Europe and in the U.S.A., to analysing the labour
market in professional sport, to financing professional sport and to the new
role of the media, the meetings ended by setting up of the International
Association of Sports Economists (I.A.S.E.). Since that date, the Association
has diversified its activities: - organising an annual Conference: Limoges (1999);
Lisbon (2000); Málaga (2001); New York (2002); Neuchâtel (2003); Athens
(2004); Ottawa (2005); Bochum (2006); Dayton (2007) and Gijón (2008) - publishing a newsletter; - collaborating with the Journal of Sport Economics; - circulating information amongst
members; - members of the Association participating in joint
publications; - and opening a website |
