Resumen

Entre fines del XIX y avanzado el XX, la dialectología y la geografía lingüística recurrieron con frecuencia a la transcripción fonética de textos para ilustrar, de manera sintética, los modos de hablar que se sometían a análisis en las monografías dialectales y los atlas lingüísticos. Este artículo estudia cuatro de estas muestras, dos de Puerto Rico (Bareño 1898 y Navarro Tomás 1928) y dos de República Dominicana (Navarro Tomás 1928 y Alvar 1983). Se describe la obra en que cada una aparece, las peculiaridades del sistema de notación fonética de cada autor, y se presenta el sumario de otros textos disponibles en dichas obras, cuando existan.

Abstract

Between the XIX and the XX centuries, Dialectology and Geographical Linguistics used to illustrate their studies with phonetic transcriptions in order to show the speech variation which was analyzed in monographs and linguistic atlas. This article studies four of these works, two about Puerto Rico (Bareño 1898, and Navarro Tomás 1928), and two about the Dominican Republic (Navarro Tomás 1928, and Alvar 1983). The article describes the work in which each phonetic text is included together with the characteristics of the system of phonetic notation employed by each author. Finally, the inventory of available texts (if they exist at all) is also given.
