fusion-text-1\"><p><strong>Descripci\u00f3n<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>La epigen\u00e9tica estudia procesos moleculares que regulan la funci\u00f3n de los genes y de la cromatina sin implicar cambios en la secuencia del ADN. Los procesos epigen\u00e9ticos mejor conocidos son la metilaci\u00f3n del ADN gen\u00f3mico, las modificaciones postraduccionales de las histonas y los ARNs de interferencia. En la primera parte de la asignatura \u00abEpigen\u00e9tica y Biomedicina\u00bb describiremos en detalle cada uno de estos procesos moleculares y explicaremos el papel fundamental que juegan en el establecimiento de programas gen\u00e9ticos espec\u00edficos durante la diferenciaci\u00f3n celular y el desarrollo. Tambi\u00e9n mostraremos que estos procesos moleculares acumulan alteraciones durante el desarrollo ontog\u00e9nico que pueden estar asociadas con envejecimiento y c\u00e1ncer. Hace m\u00e1s de tres d\u00e9cadas, Andrew Feinberg y Bert Vogelstein mostraron, por primera vez que los tumores sufr\u00edan alteraciones en los patrones de metilaci\u00f3n del ADN gen\u00f3mico. Hoy en d\u00eda, los cambios epigen\u00e9ticos se consideran, junto con las mutaciones gen\u00e9ticas, las dos alteraciones moleculares m\u00e1s relevantes en c\u00e1ncer. En esta asignatura describiremos en detalle las alteraciones epigen\u00e9ticas que se producen en los tumores y discutiremos su impacto en la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica a nivel de diagn\u00f3stico y pron\u00f3stico y sobre el desarrollo de nuevos f\u00e1rmacos antitumorales. Terminaremos la parte te\u00f3rica de la asignatura discutiendo los factores internos (gen\u00e9ticos) y externos (ambientales) implicados en la acumulaci\u00f3n de alteraciones epigen\u00e9ticas durante la vida adulta. En concreto, discutiremos trabajos que muestran como la exposici\u00f3n cr\u00f3nica al sol y al humo del tabaco, dos factores ambientales que aumentan el riesgo de c\u00e1ncer, conllevan alteraciones de la metilaci\u00f3n del DNA a nivel de genoma completo, planteando por tanto la posibilidad de que los factores epigen\u00e9ticos medien, al menos en parte, el efecto de las exposiciones ambientales da\u00f1inas en el desarrollo de los tumores. La segunda parte de la asignatura tendr\u00e1 lugar en el laboratorio de la Unidad de Epigen\u00e9tica del C\u00e1ncer del IUOPA. Los alumnos tendr\u00e1n la posibilidad de analizar la metilaci\u00f3n aberrante de un gen en l\u00edneas celulares de c\u00e1ncer humano.
