Es ampliamente conocida como un mecanismo de reciclaje que media la degradaci\u00f3n de estructuras intracelulares, ya sea para reutilizar sus componentes b\u00e1sicos o eliminar amenazas que pueden comprometer la viabilidad celular. La desregulaci\u00f3n de esta v\u00eda se ha relacionado con varias patolog\u00edas, incluyendo el c\u00e1ncer. Sin embargo, los primeros tratamientos oncol\u00f3gicos centrados en la autofagia, aunque prometedores, han sido ineficientes debido a su falta de especificidad. Por lo tanto, es esencial buscar estrategias adicionales que puedan modular espec\u00edficamente la autofagia sin alterar otras v\u00edas celulares.<\/p>\n<p>En este proyecto colaborativo, en el que suman fuerzas los grupos de investigaci\u00f3n \u00abAutofagia y metabolismo\u00bb y \u00abAutofagia y autosis\u00bb, exploraremos la posibilidad de intervenir en la autofagia de las c\u00e9lulas cancerosas de distintas maneras. Por un lado, identificando la dependencia de estas c\u00e9lulas a prote\u00ednas autof\u00e1gicas (como, por ejemplo, las proteasas ATG4) para despu\u00e9s modificar su actividad consecuentemente. Por otro lado, sobreestimulando la autofagia para desencadenar \u00abautosis\u00bb, un tipo \u00fanico de muerte celular autof\u00e1gica donde las c\u00e9lulas mueren por autodigesti\u00f3n excesiva. Doctor desde 2007 por la Universidad de Oviedo, Guillermo Mari\u00f1o prosigui\u00f3 su investigaci\u00f3n postdoctoral en el laboratorio del profesor Guido Kroemer, en Par\u00eds (2010-2015). Despu\u00e9s, se reincorpor\u00f3 a la Universidad de Oviedo como Investigador Ram\u00f3n y Cajal, liderando el grupo \u00abAutofagia y metabolismo\u00bb. Es autor de 75 publicaciones en revistas internacionales de m\u00e1ximo impacto (Cell, Science, Molecular Cell&#8230;), con un promedio de citas de 285\/art\u00edculo y un \u00edndice h de 43.<\/p>\n<p>Por su parte, \u00c1lvaro Fern\u00e1ndez se doctor\u00f3 en la Universidad de Oviedo en 2015 para despu\u00e9s unirse al grupo de la profesora Beth Levine, en Dallas (2016-2020). En 2021 regresa como Investigador Beatriz Galindo, estableciendo el grupo de investigaci\u00f3n \u00abAutofagia y autosis\u00bb.
