The main Escenario of SUBproducts4LIFE is La Soterra\u00f1a, an abandoned mine in the Principality of Asturias. The second pilot zone is El Terronal.<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div>

La Soterra\u00f1a<\/h4>\n

The main SUBProducts4LIFE site \u201cLa Soterra\u00f1a\u201d is an abandoned mine (mined by mountain mine methods, without vertical shaft) and industrial area in the North of Spain. Asturias is a region where in the present inventory of contaminated soils, 9 of the 12 listed contaminated soils are waste deposits with high arsenic and mercury content, and two other locations are industrial areas with high arsenic content.<\/p>\n

El Terronal<\/h4>\n

The SUBProducts4LIFE site \u201cEl Terronal\u201d is the secondary location of the project area; it is abandoned mercury mine located in Mieres council, owned by Asturbelga de Minas, SL, (stakeholder). They owned also former mining facilities and 8 mine deposits in the same area. A replication of pilot case 3 will be implemented in this area (case 3b). New techniques tested in La Soterra\u00f1a will be validated in a pilot area of 200 m2.<\/p>\n
