Research interests

I lead the “Mountain ecosystems and global change” group, focused on the study of biodiversity at all biological levels and the impact of global change in mountain ecosystems. We investigate the mechanisms of diversification of populations and species using genetic and phenotypic data, and community variability along elevational gradients, using long series and inventories of biodiversity data, both in the Cantabrian Mountains and in other European or extra-European mountain regions. We are interested in the conservation of mountain ecosystems and the mechanisms that condition the stability of their ecological communities. Our main aim is to understand global change impacts across scales, levels of biological organization and taxa.
