Shadia Abdel-Rahman T\u00e9llez<\/strong> is a postdoctoral fellow in the English Department, University of Oviedo. At the same university she completed an English Studies degree in 2014 followed by an MA Degree in Gender and Diversity in 2015 and an MA Degree in Teacher Training in Secondary and Upper Secondary Education and Vocational Training in 2018. She completed\u00a0her PhD Degree, graduating in 2021 with a thesis entitled Writing the Female Body in Pain: Subjective Representations of Chronic Pain in Contemporary Anglophone Memoirs<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Her research interests are phenomenological philosophy, illness literature, disability studies, and the Medical Humanities. Her recent publications include an analysis of metaphoric speech used by chronic pain sufferers titled \u201cThe Poetics of the Body in Pain: Wordlessness, Figurative Language and the Chronic Pain Experience\u201d (2018), and she is currently working on an article about spatial, social and biographical disorientation in chronic pain and disability.<\/p>\n

As regards future projects, she is working on a collection of translations of illness narratives into Spanish, a short monograph on poetic intertextuality in chronic pain autobiographical writing and another monograph exploring several narrations of chronic pain and disability in contemporary autobiographical literature.<\/p>\n

She is currently a member of the project \u201cEND: Illness in the Age of Extinction. Anglophone Narratives of Personal and Planetary Degradation (2000-2020)\u201d, funded by the Spanish National Research programme, and since 2019 she has been in receipt of a grant for\u00a0researchers from the \u201cSevero Ochoa\u201d programme of the Government of the Principality of Asturias.<\/p>\n
