Alba de Juan is a PhD student at the University of Oviedo, under the supervision of Dr. Luz Mar González-Arias. She completed a Modern Languages degree with a focus on German Studies in 2018 and an English Studies degree in 2020, both at the University of València, followed by an MA in Advanced English Studies (2021) at the same institution.

Her current research focuses on trans-generational trauma, narrative medicine, medical humanities and contemporary Irish poetry written by women, primarily targeting the early detection of trauma symptomatology through the use of creative writing. Other fields she is interested in are cognitive psychology, queer studies and space theory.

She is currently working on an article about the relationship between spaces and trauma in the poetry collectionThe Mining Road(2013) by Leanne O’Sullivan and another about the symbolic relationship between marine landscapes and womanhood in Mary O’Malley’sValparaiso (1993) and Where the Rocks Float(2012). She is also interested in poetry and film photography and some of her works have been featured in recent numbers of Healthline Magazine, The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press and The Martello Journal. She is currently part of the project “END: Illness in the Age of Extinction. Anglophone Narratives of Personal and Planetary Degradation (2000-2020)”, funded by the Spanish National Research programme.
