Marta Fernández-Morales, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer in the English, French and German Department at the University of Oviedo (Spain). Her research focuses on contemporary American cultural products, in particular literature, film, and television. She is the author of four books and has edited eight scholarly volumes, and her work has appeared in academic journals like Tulsa Studies in Women’s Literature, American Drama, Atlantis, and Women’s Studies, among others. She has participated in research projects both in Spain and abroad, and she has been the recipient of several grants and awards, including the Turnbull-Halloran Award (University of Sheffield, 1998) and a Margaret Fuller research grant (B. Franklin Institute, 2011).

As part of the HEAL Research Unit, Marta is currently working on autobiographical praxis around the topic of illness, most particularly cancer and COVID-19. She has published about this issue in Res Rhetorica, A/B Review, and Cultural Studies, and she has a chapter forthcoming in a volume within the Life Writing series at Palgrave MacMillan.
