Océano Abierto (Open Ocean)

Open Ocean is a dissemination project with K2 students. We teach them to build their own oceanographic sensors using open hardware. We then help them install those sensors in jetty piers, small recreation or fishing boats and in the Cudillero Oceanographic Buoy , which belongs to the Asturias Marine Observatory, University of Oviedo. Last, we guide the students in the interpretation of the stream of data coming from those sensors through the internet. For more info and videos, have a glance at

Oceano Abierto is a collaboration led by Angel López-Urrutia from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), LABORAL Ars Center, the Education Council of the Asturias Government and the Asturias Marine Oservatory from the University of Oviedo. It is financed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
