Considering the both professional training in general medicine as well as in dentistry, and two acquired specialties in the two areas (pediatric neurology and dento-alveolar surgery), allow Associate Professor Dr. Ilea Aranka approach oral pathology in interrelation with general pathology, thus allowing her the holistic approach of patients. She has conducted research about how the poor oral health has negative repercussions on general health and how the chronic inflammation of the oral cavity can cause metabolic imbalances and even functional perturbation in various organs (eg, the role of dental foci in management of patient with peripheral facial paralysis or the interrelation between periodontal disease and the patient’s risk for acute cardiovascular event). Chronic and acute inflammations in oral cavity from bacterial etiology (such as periodontal pathogens) and viral origin (like as HPV infection) can cause organ diseases. The researches envisaged the negative effects of drugs administered in various general diseases, such as bisphosphonates therapy on bone metabolism and risk of maxilla/jaw osteonecrosis. Dr. Ilea A is author of 45 articles in extenso, 58 articles published as abstract, 218 papers presented in national and international meetings, 1 book and 14 chapters and she was awarded with diplomas and/or medals – 47. She was involved in 10 research projects: in 4 as project manager, in 2 as project coordinator and member in 4 projects.
