GELP participation in the XXIII Week of Science and Innovation at University of Oviedo

GELP is participating in the XXIII Week of Science and Innovation at University of Oviedo: Presentation about the use of laser ablation based spectroscopy techniques and its application of the multielemental mapping of tissues from cancer patients. (We even have the local television from Asturias reporting this event). Hosting a visit from High School Bernaldo de Quiros in our labs in Mieres (We believe that they really enjoyed the visit)

We are hiring! We offer a postdoc position to join our research project: «Development of a spectroscopy-based portable and automatized device for pollutant wastewater discharges control (QWATER)» (Desarrollo de un equipo portable y automatizado, basado en técnicas de espectroscopía, para el control de vertidos contaminantes en aguas residuales (QWATER)) Candidates can apply for this position until April 20th 2023 through this link, where you can also see the details of the contract. Cristina Méndez has been awarded by the American Society for Applied Spectroscopy!

2023 Society for Applied Spectroscopy- Atomic Section Student Award given to Cristina Méndez from GELP Research Group. As part of this Award, Cristina will present an Invited Lecture: «Building your own fs/ns-LIBS system – from desperation to success and everything in between» at SciX 2023 (https://www.scixconference.org/) (Nevada, USA, October 8-13 2023) Here you can find a short biography of Cristina: «I am a 4th year Ph.D. student working on Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) at the Spectroscopy, Lasers and Plasmas Research Group (GELP) led by Profs. Nerea Bordel and Jorge Pisonero at the University of Oviedo. My experience in LIBS dates…

Congratulations Dr. Fernández-Menéndez!!

Luis J. Fernández-Menéndez has succesfully defended his thesis Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectrosocpy (LIBS) for halogen detection using molecular emission (Espectroscopía de plasmas inducidos por láser (LIBS) para la detección de halógenos empleando emisión molecular) earning his PhD.  From left to right: Prof. Jorge Pisonero (advisor, GELP, Department of Physics, Universidad de Oviedo), Dr. Beatriz Fernández (committee member, Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry, Universidad de Oviedo), Prof. Nerea Bordel (GELP PI, Department of Physics, Universidad de Oviedo), Prof. Carlos Aragón (committee member, Department of Sciences, Universidad Pública de Navarra),  Prof. José Miguel Vadillo (president of the committee, Department of Analytical Chemistry, Universidad…

Ana Méndez and Jorge Pisonero featured in local TPA news to discuss their work in Nature Communications paper

Local news channel TPA visited the Laser Ablation laboratory in Mieres to interview SCTs Technician and GELP-collaborator Ana Méndez and GELP deputy leader Jorge Pisonero regarding recently published article Long-term platinum-based drug accumulation in cancer-associated fibroblasts promotes colorectal cancer progression and resistance to therapy. Jorge Pisonero – Atomic, Molecular and Nuclear Physics Professor from U. of Oviedo   Ana Méndez – Technician from the Scientific and Technical Services of the Uni. Oviedo   You can watch the interview clicking here.
