Having studied Philosophy for her first degree, History and Sociocultural Analysis for her Master’s, both at the University of Oviedo, Sandra Sánchez received her PhD from the University of Oviedo in the Doctoral Programme on Economics and the Sociology of Globalization (July 2017), with a scholarship for University Teacher Training from the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport (2012).
She belongs to the Sociology of Food Research Group at the University of Oviedo, where she wrote her doctoral thesis “Deporte, alimentación y salud: estudio intergeneracional sobre la construcción del cuerpo” (“Sport, food, and health: An intergenerational study on the construction of the body“), in which she investigated the most important changes in relation to sport, food, health, and how these influence the modifications (physical and ideal constructions) of the bodies. Given that bodily construction is both physical and symbolic and that engaging in sport physically modifies body shape and appearance, the research sample focused on men and women who have practised sport at various levels of competition and engagement.
Currently, she is a member of the working group of the project on “Women, Sport and Dictatorship (1939–1975)” in the R+D+I Programme 2013–2016.
