She received her degree in Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid, and her PhD in Sociology from the University of Oviedo; she has been Professor of Sociology since 2000. Among other subjects in the field of Sociology, she has taught Social Research Techniques since 1988. She has conducted research and published numerous national and international works on young people’s entry to work, training and the labour market, labour mobility, in-company training, analysis of longitudinal data and social inequality. Her publications are the result of her participation in numerous publicly funded research projects. Since 2009 she has focused her research towards the Sociology of Food. In the field of social inequalities, it is worth singling out her participation in the European Commission’s RECWOWE “Reconciling Work and Welfare in Europe” Network of Excellence (6th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development), which is made up of an interdisciplinary team of European researchers and experts. Within this Network she has published, together with Dr. Rodolfo Gutiérrez, “Spain: Persisting Inequalities in a Growing Employment Context”, in the book edited by Neil Fraser, Rodolfo Gutiérrez and Ramón Peña-Casas, Working Poverty in Europe. A Comparative Approach, Palgrave Macmillan (2011). Also noteworthy is the publication with Dr. Marta Ibáñez Pascual “Los trabajadores pobres y los bajos salarios en España: un análisis de los factores familiares y laborales asociados a las diferentes situaciones de pobreza” in EMPIRIA (2007). She is a member of the Research Group in Sociology of Food (approved by ANECA in November 2011) and is part of the Biotechnology and Health Cluster of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Oviedo. Her collaboration in this Group has mainly been motivated by her expertise in methodology and social research techniques, providing methodological support for most of the projects carried out by the group at the University of Oviedo. In this area, with Dr. Cecilia Díaz Méndez, she has published “Eating Practice Models in Spain and the United Kingdom: A Comparative Time-Use Analysis” in the International Journal of Comparative Sociology (2014) and “Contemporary Food Trends: the homogenization of food expenditure in Spain and the United Kingdom” in the magazine REIS (2012). She participated, along with other colleagues, in the National Survey of Food Habits (ENHALI, 2012), published by the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2014, she co-edited the monograph “Metodologías para el estudio de la alimentación contemporánea” (“Methodologies for the study of contemporary food”) with Dr. Cecilia Díaz Méndez for the Revista Política y Sociedad.
